This Matchbox Miniature of Ely, Minnesota is a tiny layered wooden scene for anyone who loves the Northwoods and the Boundary Waters.
Look through the window and a deer walks past a wooden sauna with smoke curling from the chimney, a tall pine on the right, and “Ely, MN” engraved along the bottom edge. The sauna is a nod to Ely’s Finnish roots. The Ely Steam Bath was built around 1915 by Finnish immigrant Emil Ahola and run by the Ahola family for about 87 years. It ships in a classic matchbox-style box labeled Ely Minnesota.
